Erm my post seems really late and outdated... anyway. Just FYI. Private Reserve inks can be bought in Singapore. Aesthetic Bay (in Ion Orchard, top floor) and Hing (1st floor, Bras Basah). I bought PR cartridges from Hing. I was looking for cartridges. Aesthetic Bay only sell them in bottles. Hing got both. I'm not working for either of them, just to let you know you can get PR inks in S'pore.

heh glad to see one more person getting onto the fountain pen wagon! what kind of ink do you wanna? waterproof? dries very quickly? bulletproof (from noodlers)? heh I'm sure many own the lamy safari! it's a good entry level fountain pen! it's quite light.. if you have some $$$ to burn, i would say go for pelikan m215. it's significantly smoother than lamy! and it looks more professional! it costs about SGD140 if I'm not wrong..

You can't go wrong with Lamy.. I like the Lamy's fine nib, though it can be little scratchy.. might not be of your liking..

I've never tried extra fine on the Lamy but I did on the Sailors.. I must say, they are not for normal mortals like us with normal use.. hehe.. its like using sharp needle on paper.. yes, strokes are nicely created but the scratchiness and friction is crazy.. Extra fine, especially for Japanese nibs, are really meant for 'the ancient Jap language, which I can't remember' (sorry.. no pun.. there is a name for that language but I'm not sure) or Traditional Chinese char writing.. Some char on these languages are so complicated, it needs a really fine tip to really get the words out.. Regards to your fountain pen drying up, you might want to try out other brands/models with more breathable nibs. You could also choose more watery inks..

the sailors are Japanese pens right? from what i've read, Japanese nibs are smaller than their american/others counterparts, like their medium is equal to a parker's fine for instance.
i'm using cartridges with my sheaffer pen right now because i lost my ink pump..... sadded..

Yes they are.. that's why the medium tip of the Sailor creates a good enough fine line..
