Hi Friends and Jabenites,

Freedom of speech… we keep hearing about this and I confess; me too. I’ve always wondered what does it actually mean and when the concept of free speech became a basic human right.

Free speech must obviously be an extension of how we think and so how can it ever not be a basic human right. Can we turn off our brains? Can we just stop thinking?

In an unbridled situation, it would then mean, say what I like regardless of what people think, whether it hurts them, make fun of them, spread rumors and do anything one can say... after all, Hey!, it is everyone’s basic rights isn’t it.

Like it or not, America was the country with the Bill of Rights that gave us much of the  basic human right. Digging deeper, I found out that the Freedom of Speech was enshrined in the First Amendment. The text follows:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

It simply means the US government cannot restrict people from saying anything they want to say. But, how does one then define the boundaries of acceptable free speech? I suppose cultural upbringing, maturity and a sense of fair play. Of course legal redress too.

Why this topic? Well, I am wondering what the internet would be say 20 years from today and how the “amendments” and constitution will move in line with the internet… perhaps we can put our thoughts in an envelope, seal it and then open it 20 years from now.

Back to the audio world… we had 2 headphone meets in Indonesia; one in Surabaya and another in Jakarta. It was a fun meet and all our friends were there. Alvon and the others will be posting their impressions in the Indonesian sub-forum in a short while.

New products that arrived the last couple of days:

We managed to snag a LineaRossa W1 for all of you to audition . The actual units are arriving any moment , so come and hear the auditioning unit. We expect it to be sold out very quickly. Visit this page for a quick read, http://www.linearossa.org/w1.htm

And all you Indonesian Friends & Jabenites reading this post... Thanks... 'twas a great time, Stay Kere Hore Smiley, figuratively of course.

Results of the draw:

  • #73: Noob
  • #87: Kilowatts
  • #99: Fengtard

Please print your profile when you come and pick up your prizes.

And, in the meantime, Stay well and happy, The Jaben Team
