Recently, I bought a guitar and now I am learning how to play. I've watched videos from youtube and some books. However none of the books teach me how to read chords as shown below. Can anyone teach me how do I read it? Cheesy  Do I strum the chords with respect to the words?
Thanks in advance.

Superman (It's Not Easy)

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus
I can't stand to fly    I'm not that naïve

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus   C   G
I'm just out to find    the better part of me
I'm more than a bird    more than a plane

Am7   F   C   G   F   C
More than some pretty face beside a train and it's not easy to be me.

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus
Wish that I could cry   Fall upon my knees

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus   C   G
Find a way to lie   About a home I'll never see
It may sound absurd     But don't be naive

Am7   F
Even heroes have the right to bleed

C   G   Am7   F
I may be disturbed but won't you concede even heroes have the right to dream

C   G   F   C
And it's not easy to be me

Amin   G/B   C   Dmin   Amin   D
Up up and away away from me well it's alright

C   D   F   Gsus
You can all sleep sound tonight  I'm not crazy or anything

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus
I can't stand to fly    I'm not that naive

C   G   Am7   F
Men weren't meant to ride with clouds between their knees

C   Gsus   Am7   Fsus
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet digging for kryptonite
on a one-way  street

C   G   Am7   F
Only a man in a silly red sheet looking for special things inside of me

C   Gsus   Am7   F   C   Gsus   Am7   F
Inside of me   Inside of me   Inside of me   Inside of me

C   G   Am7   Fsus
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet only a man looking for a dream

C   G   Am7   F
Only a man in a funny red sheet and it's not easy

C   G   C   Gsus   Am7   F   C
It's not easy to be me.

I've also seen some websites like jitapu.com with guitar scores that are rather different. I wanted to play this song http://www.jitapu.com/tabPages/202/img20063123093112.htm but I couldn't understand what are they trying to say.
Thanks in advance.  Cheesy

the letters above the word indicate the chord changes at that point of the song, but does not illustrate the strumming patterns in between the changes, you'll have to fill them in yourself by listening to the song.

http://www.jitapu.com/tabPages/202/img20063123093112.htm any idea what does the |_|  on each line means? If it covers 4 lines does it mean that I have to strum to the line? And also the brackets of numbers below?

Ok for that it's a little trickier. Basically do you see the chord which is above the tabs? You would have to form the chords first . Those Xs are then to be plucked with the corresponding chord you see above the bar

Oh thanks a lot.  Grin Now it makes more sense. However I've also noticed at the 4th line or section. There are 3 up arrows with the numbers 7 1 2 below. What does it mean?

a little tip from a newbie here: you don't have to follow the way it is played rigidly. for example if for some parts u think its nicer to pick than to strum, go ahead. same for the opposite way. for example, i sometimes play More Than Words by strumming through everything rather than pinching bass and treble as it is supposed. music is about creativity anyway. so just play it anyway u want and perceive to sound nice. and then you could play around with muting the sounds, adding in percussive sounds, different ways of strumming, etc.
