Hi, I brought a bottle of bacon salt back with me to sydney and i'm guessing it hardened up due to the cold temperature on board the plane. I'm pretty sure its because its hardened up due to the moisture in the bottle and I have no idea how to soften it down for regular usage/consumption. I've tried to sun it and microwave with the cover off, but it only seems to be a temporary solution. Hope someone can help me.. I want my bacon salt flavored food!!

after you break it up again, put some rice inside to absorb the moisture. it should work

i think the fastest method is probably using a mortar and pestle. pound it up and put it back in

I used a chopstick and jabbed at it until it fell out in chunks.
Then used the rice method to remove the moisture.
Then the hard part is getting the rice from the salt. You need a decent sieve at least.

My bacon salt were hardened too. What I did was to cook the bacon salt tomato soup that Jaben was handing out in the past.

.... You put a normal plastic container in a microwave?
Anyway, mine suffered from it as well. I simply scrapped it from the bottle with cutlery. Will probably consider desiccant like rice or silica gel if i get new bottles.

What I did with the previous bottle is to take a teaspoon, turn it around and stab the bacon salt repeatedly with the teaspoon.
Pretty darn effective, but people watching you might think you need anger management classes... =)
