Hi Everyone,

Hankering to modify your MS-1 or the Grados? We now have the AluMod.

In this thread we will show you how easy it is. All you need is a soldering iron and a hairdryer.

Let's start:

Remove the drivers from the headphone
Use a hair dryer and slowly warm up the shells and separate the driver from the external shell. This is how your driver looks like with the cable still attached.

Remove the cable

Thread the cable
Use the existing cable and thread it through the Alumod

Add cable tie

Remove excess length

Solder the cable to the driver

Flip over driver and insert into the external housing of the Alumod

Screw on the top

Repeat for the other driver and attach the headband

Slip on the earpads

Voila

Guess who that person is?

And yes, now you have a one-of-a-kind mod.

Imitation of PS1000! Shocked Mod is a nice way to put it but it does look nice.  Grin How does it sound? The outer housing is hollow (PS1000 is solid metal) and further drivers just gives me a feeling that it's mid might sound recessed and bass light, though there should be an improvement in soundstage due to it's design.   Smiley

Still interested in the sound. Thinking of bringing my SR80i for this mod. because it look so much like the Ps1000 and the Jumbo pads. Love their comfort Smiley

However still wondering what kind of improvement or flavours it will provide thouigh.......

I have the iompression that SR80i, MS1i , Sr125i all have difference sound sig as they are different driver?

So having distancer will improve the sound stage, but will it collaspe the MIds? As what cannoncal has mentioned. its definitely a great mod to improve the staging.. really not sure if the all so impt mids to me will suffer. Are there audition sets at Jaben?

Have alwways wanted to "upgrade " my Sr80i as its so neglected. thought of doing the Magnum mod but its so pricey..

A quick question, is there any person who have done either woody/ alu mod and use them as outdoor can? Smiley Sure will get more looks from passer by as they look soooo cool and of course, reminds me of Chun li hair do Smiley or Queen Amadila Smiley

It's shape just reminds me of old telephone.  Grin But it a cool looking woody.

For me when comes to sound, the mid is the main priority. If mid is lousy, every aspects is compromise.
