Upgraditis hurts

« on: August 15, 2011, 11:05:06 AM »

Hey guys,

Recently bought fired3p's D2000s.
Sadly, the 3.5mm disagrees with the HM-801's headphone socket (plug doesn't grip)
Is there anywhere I can go to get the plug changed?
I'm leaving Singapore for school next month so I need to do this fast >:

Also, for any HM-801 owners, what did you find was the best brand plug to use?
ViaBlue didn't really work so well while Oyaide was okay.

Thanks!!  Grin

You could ask one of the DIYers in this forum or try LHS at Sim Lim Tower, second floor. They stock Neutrik, Switchcraft and Canare plugs as well, but I'm not too sure which is best for the HM801.

They might, but I can't guarantee it. BTW what is the plug you are replacing?

It's a Switchcraft 3.5mm.

The Neutrik plug looks quite promising, so does the Canare.

go down to LHS SLT, my advice - take the neutrik plug. should fit almost everything. -- seriously awsome built quality -- for a fracion of the cost of other exotic connectors.

Not better than D7000 though D';

Since the Canare cable is a bit too short and stiff for my liking, I figured I might as well get the D2000s recabled with a nicer, more flexible cable w/ a neutrik plug/some other alternative. Has anyone recabled their D2000s before/had any experience with Jena's Ultrawire? Care to share any experience?

you can get the guys at livecable.net to recable the headphones for you, but might cost A bit. Don't use neutrik plug in that case, because it might be too large for the plug.

Gonna ask a DIY-er to help me recable so..

Wondering if the Ultrawire is worth the much higher price than SPC..

I've not tried any SPC cable before, but here's my impression of the Jena 18awg wire: http://jaben.net/forums/index.php?topic=13130.msg242603#msg242603

If you do go for the Jena wire, you might need a 1/4" plug as a 3.5mm plug might not be able to fit.

typically full copper cables, such as the jena labs cable will be warm and geared towards bass while silver leans towards a brighter, better seperated sound. Thats my opinion though.

1/8 to 1/4in adaptors.....

just a quick note to anyone who reads this small post...
over the years i collected quite a few of these adaptors,
but i didn't really know they can sound v different.
One adaptor i had deteriorates the sound so badly that i thought i had a BAD CABLE..
and complained to the guy who sold the headfone to me.
He apologied profusely...i accepted it as innocent error. hehe.

Donno what caused me to try switching the inferior adaptor with another in my toolbox..
and wahhhhlaaaa...the sound just exploded into open space..
and the headfone came ALIVE!!!

of cause my turn to apologies to the seller... Grin Grin
