Hi,

New to all this quality DAC/Headphone stuff. I currently have Westone 4 with a Govibe Magnum DAC that I use with an ipod while traveling.

So I would like some recommendations on replicating this system but for listening to music from my PC (Flac Files).

So my criteria is as follows.

  • I like my 4 way westones, but don't really want in-ear headphones as I want quick on/off while sitting at my PC. So thinking over ears? So looking for similar quality of sound or better.
don't really have a space issue, but the DAC still needs to sit on the desk that has the PC tower, plus 2 x 24" monitors. So maybe something that could fit under the monitors. (700mm)
Yes, unlimited budget - Ok so not really, but happy to go up to $2/3k for good quality sound.

As mentioned, I new to all of this, so any  is welcomed, just want good quality sound.

Thanks

Eric...

how come nobody is helping out this gentleman...Huh? where are the senior birds here....where is joe seow..

maybe the "unlimited budget" means anything goes...try anything until u are shiokkk?? hehe

========

For me, i am quite happy with a nuforceHD or HDP as a dac.. or even as a dac+amp
if i am powering headfones like denon d2000..
all these are within 1000bucks..
because i have limited budget.

i havent gone UNLIMITED yet, unless i sell my pet dog.

Bro Woodpecker, I also don't have unlimited budget unless I get to sell all my hifi gears!

Well, out there are many choices, like the ARCAM, Audiolab, etc as the fro t end DAC, get a dedicated headphone amp.

I can only feed my more than 10yrs old Parasound DAC-1000 into my Musical Fidelity X-Cans overall plus changing the tubes less than 2k inclusive of cabling, hehe! But th Parasound is full size  length!

Did someone call for me? Eh, I no senior ... Rig is slightly above average only ...

A lot of people here got big tube amps and speakers..

Me only 2 silver boxes...

But, the M-DAC sounds pretty good out of the box. Quite transparent, with nice deep bass without being overpowering

Bro, I took the photo from their  page, i'm waiting for it to come to Singapore so I can audition it. The jitter management is quite a step above what we see currently in the market. Not priced too exorbitantly and finally has all the inputs that its' smaller brother didn't have.

i've been good, but been really busy with work. I'm on leave now though, so got more time to post.

In any case, we're having a gathering this X'mas eve at raindrop like last year. Wine, whiskey and finger food. You and Andy want to come? Welcome of course  Smiley

Will like to join but work until 3pm, poor me!

On the X'mas eve still have to slaughter or get slaughtered! (working w/ typical Chinese boss is always the case, aggressive, arrogant, abusive, etc!

It's good to see you around again, otherwise like bro alamakazam mentioned in another thread that here mostly all ginnas.

Schiit Bifrost with Asgard, Valhalla or Lyr amp sounds like a good combination at a reasonable price as well. However I've not tried the Westone 4 so I can't say what headphone sounds similar to it.

That Stello in super-fied's pic, is that a new Stello product? It doesn't look like their 200 and 500 series amps.

Sorry guys, I'm busy on Christmas Eve so I wouldn't be able to make merry at RDA. You guys have fun. Wink
