Saw pictures of the L1 along with M1 and other Philip's new Fidelio range. They look very wicked indeed. Wonder if the SQ matches up though.

I got the L1's about a month ago in Hong Kong. Trawling the little audiophile alleys of MongKok I came across these things sitting on their own display in a little store. I was just about to leave the store after enquiring about upgrade cables for my HD25's and 600's when I chanced upon them. Plugged in my iPhone and... no sound. They store owner told me the hidden amp in the display wasn't working properly so he pulled out the jack and let me plug it into my phone.
It could have been the initial shock that a pair of Philips headphones made such a sound or it could be the sheer excitement at discovering a new toy or even the impression I got from the awesome build quality. But without a doubt, I was very, very impressed during that 3 minute, cursory listen. Alas, I was in for another shock when the owner informed me that it cost about HKD2400.
However, the draw was too strong and that little voice that I trust in me, gave the ok. So I went with it. It's been close to 30 days now and having had my run with them and passed them on to a few really hardcore, crazy friends, I am happy to say, I did not not regret the purchase one bit.
There are certainly limitations and these cans cannot and should not be compared to full size cans like the HD600's or DT990's or any flagship product. For a product that you just plug into your smart device, its just awesome. It's semi open, and there is sufficient bass slam to compensate for the noiser ambient levels normally associated with mobile usage. Highs are pretty well defined and extended without being unforgiving of lesser source materials. All in all, a fantastic piece of kit that I would willingly travel with. Scales well with an amp but doesn't need one when you want to be as mobile as possible. Good buy and I love mine.

Looks interesting... openback but doesn't leak out too much sound? I'll wait to hear it in Jaben.
