I wish Jaben offers 9 volt NiMH rechargeable battery with at least 230  capacity and matching smart charger as well. Followings are sought after items:

- Maha Powerex MH-C490F-DC9 9-volt battery charger.
- Maha Powerex 230/300   (9.6v/8.4v) NiMH rechargeable battery.

Since many headphone amplifiers (Corda, RSA etc) are powered by 9v battery and high capacity 9V rechargeable battery is hard to find in Singapore, it will be a good complement for customer to purchase the headphone amplifiers and every necessary items from the same store at the same time.

Last time I checked, Jaben did sell the maha powerex, and another brand of rechargebles... they just don't stock the charger, due to the hornet having an inbuilt charging circuit.

For the charger, you can use any other normal battery chargers.

yeah I guess those from the regular rechargebles you see in NTUC and Giant should work just fine - but personally I'd use the official ones, just to be safe...

I do have cheap Energizer 9V charger bought from supermarket. But these cheap chargers are different from smart chargers in following ways:

- Smart chargers have protection circuit built-in to prevent overcharging and overheating of battery.
- Smart chargers can switch between fast and slow charging modes depend on charge level.
- Smart chargers switch to trickle charging once the battery has been fully charged, thus retain maximum charge capacity as long as the battery is in the charger.

All these advantages are accomplished through microprocessor control circuit and detections of temperature and differential voltage between charger and battery. Whereas almost all cheap chargers rely on simple timer circuit to control charging. Default setting of the timer is only good for the specified brand thus most of the time your 9V rechargeable battery either never charged to full capacity (time too short) or overcharged and overheated (time too long).

By the way, price difference between cheap charger and smart charger is within only SGD 30. So why take unnecessary risk ?

wrong forum.

but there is no battery forum anyway Tongue

smart charger are a lot better for sure and are worth the extra money.

for example, i use li-ion rechargeable(no i am not kidding they are available) AA batteries for one of my flashlights.
those battery can start a fire pretty well.
but luckily, it has a protection circuit built into the battery to protect from over charging/dis-charging.
it is not those 1.7V ones btw, they are the 3.6V-4.2V kind of li-ions.

if there wasn't that circuit, it won't even use it, let alone charge it.

on those 9V rechargeables, in my opinion, they are quite useless.
why? because they don't really have much capacity.
compared to normal alkaline ones, they only have around a quarter of the alkaline's capacity.
so charging them frequently is a must.

i say, if jaben does want to sell 9V batteries, they should source for lithium 9V primary batteries.
not rechargeable, but give out the same voltage as a alkaline 9V, but has around double the capacity and has less mass/lighter the alkaline ones.
however, IIRC, they cost a lot more.

how about rechargeble lithium 9V batteries? You can find them quite easily online, and are rated at 500mAh. Extremely pricey, of course.

well, they are dangerous  Cool
so they must have the protection circuit.
most online sellers don't really know what they are selling...
putting something very explosive in your audiophile amps is very scary.
if there is no built-in protection circuit, it might just over discharge and bye bye goes both the amp and the battery.

best read more about it here:
http://www.ipowerus.com/specs/9v500mah_spec_060411.htm

quite a few people have used it with their Headsix with no problems... of course one should always do their own research first...

haven't seen this brand on eBay anyways, the only place I've seen it is a battery sales shop.

I believe the energizer chargers (one model) charges both their AA and 9V, AAA and what have you size batteries... however, I'm not sure how good it is, but it's the only one I know of right now.

Most consumer AA/AAA charger that has a 9V connector takes very long to charge the 9V batter, between 7-9 hours. They are trickle chargers and doesn't have any cutoff circuit. The best I've seen so far is the 9V Maha charger sold by Eastgear. Not sure if Jaben sells them.

Unfortunately for us, 9V is not popular here because it is not widely use. Thus we cannot find good or high capacity 9V cells and rechargeables, except for Powerex 230mAh.

looks like the voltage is lower, but it'll last longer... most portable amps shouldn't need the higher voltage right? but if that's the case, wouldn't the 300mAh powerexs be better?
