Found an interesting article on Digital Photography School Forums.

Making your own light tent!

http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent/

you can do something similar with 3 pieces of mahjong paper and some sticks (for support). Use one piece as the backdrop (or use black if you prefer), and two pieces at the side. (similar to the box concept)

tried that at home some time back and here are two test shots

done with 2x 3M polarizing light and 580EX (lighting was over powered on one side)

Alternatively you can try something like this for larger shoots. I did this for my client's recent product shoot. It offers great scalability. A very budget studio Cheesy

It involves cardboard, lots of aluminium foil, tape and translucent paper. The lights I used are those energy saving bulbs.

Here is the result...

Read "How to Be an Environmentally Friendly Photographer" and I like the author's thoughtfulness and consideration. Besides having a passion for photography, I believe it is even more important to have respect for the subjects that you photograph, too. I had a photography friend who liked to say "Stupid bird" or "Stupid " because he had been waiting around for more than 15 minutes but the bird or  refused to turn and face the way he wanted it to. Frankly, I felt quite annoyed by him saying that. The bird had every right to face wherever it wanted to face. In fact, we were the ones intruding into their environment and disturbing them. If we get good shooting opportunities, we ought to be thankful. If we don't, it is nothing to complain about.
