Personally, I'll say go for it. Get the D2000. Denon is what I really call 'exponential' price increase for slight-somewhat better performance. I don't currenty think the big price increase is worth it. But who knows, down the road... Unless you really liked the wood. -Edit- Excerpt from L.A website from your link: Q: Why isn’t there a “L.A-5000”?
A: When you remove the cable and the cups from a Denon AH-D2000, you end up with the exact same construction/assembly and driver as you would have with a D5000. Using a D5000 for a platform for a new Series headphone just means you’ve spent more for parts that are discarded as part of our mod anyway.

Markl himself commented that he would take a markl-modded D5000 over the R10 anyday, with the R10 being 4 times the price. Too bad he's not interested in doing the mod commercially.

This is something I'm looking forward to do one day. Just one thing, did you notice any sibilance after the markl mod? This is the only doubt I have regarding the mod.

That's one fine info! Think I go check out those car audio shops this seemly magical stuff when I'm up to it and reasonably-priced.
Hopefully other Denon-users may brave it out and diy-markl-mod it as well!
I must say... the markl mod is a great improvement... Not that the stocks are bad... just that the mod are even better... Hi, you DIY mod the D2000 or D5000? Do you follow the exact instruction or have your own way? Can share more how you DIY?

Do you follow the exact instruction or have your own way? Can share more how you DIY? I had done another round of the mod, after see that the copy mat was totally different from the dynamat. As i've only got enough to do the mod of the drivers, i skip the front part of the driver as they takes a lot of the mat, Yes i do follow the instruction on the head fi thread.

If i'm not wrong, there's a few audio car dealer that stock the dynamats. not sure if they come in small sizes.

I'm not tooo bothered with the sound to make a walk to ubi to dig around, and yeah, shipping is crazy, but those things are dense and heavy.

any info where to get it? you will remove the wording if you rub against the wording while removing, if you're careful, you should be ok.
