Westone ES5

« Reply #2162 on: July 20, 2012, 03:18:35 AM »

I am still not used to the tight bass on ES5 as I prefer more on clarity.
And within 6 months, the two sets of doublehelix cables are spoiled, both have the same problem on the right side pins (A bit not aligned to the plug)
Very down. Any recommendation on portable amp which improves the clarity on ES5?

ES5 is darker sounding than JH13.

I understand how u feel bro, since I once own an ES5 too.
U can try Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable. It'll brighten up ES5 slightly.

Thanks for your input.
How is the cable compare with doublehelix in terms of clarity?
I listen to jazz vocal and jazz most of the time.

Hmm online there's a guy who compared the UE 18, JH 16 ,JH 13, and ES5, he said the ES5 is the brightest among all and UE18 is the darkest.
For me I find the JH 13, and 16 too bright for me, that's why I went for JH 11 which is dark sounding. hmm different people say different things lol. If I based on your review I probably would get the ES5 lol

Haven't heard double helix, so am not able to advise.
I listen to jazz vocals and instruments too (60% of my library).

Currently using Miracle with Silver Dragon as I yearn for the transparency, clarity and soundstage.
Miracle gives me all that, but the bass is tad too quick.
Lol, guess u can't have everything.

Hi can someone help me?my JH5 now has its driver coming loose inside the shell, and now the bass sounds very muddy like those cheap earbuds. Should i send back to JHAudio on my own or should i send it to jaben for them to send to JHAudio? Thanks

Personally, i would give it to Jaben since I don't want the hassle. But ultimately, it's your choice.

Looks like the customs fever has died down after raging for several years huh..
My UE10Pros bought in 2008 are still serving me well.. Has taken me through quiet studying hours, ah bengs arguing with girlfriends in army bunk, daily commute to work, bawling babies on planes..
Hope your customs are rewarding you for you initial investment too!

They are a considerable investment and don't have the high turnover universals have. Wink
